THE SCHOOL AND THE COMMUNITY

Hunter Sports High School is a specialist sports high school serving greater Newcastle. Our students are drawn from a wide range of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds and comprise two main groups; local “community” students drawn from our local feeder area and Talented Sports (TSP) students drawn from a much wider area. In recent years students entering the TSP have come from interstate, country and the wider Hunter, Central Coast area.

The great strength of Hunter Sports High, is the way that we provide worthwhile learning opportunities for each and every student regardless of his/her background and abilities. The support of parents and the wider community for the school and its programs is essential. Such support can only be ensured if effective communications between parents and school are maintained and if parent participation in school activities and decision-making is encouraged.

Teaching staff are encouraged to promote parent participation whenever possible and to take advantage of the communications systems that operate, such as our weekly Express News and term Newsletter, and support the development of business/industry links as they develop.
