SEAT

Student Equity Advisory Team

SEAT allows stuents to have more of an opportunity to have a voice in schools and to improve studnet learning. It also improves student relationships within the class room.

SEAT is guided by four social justice and equity principles

  1. Fair go
  2. Fair say
  3. Fair content
  4. Fair share

Being part of SEAT means feeling as if you can negotiate with many of the teachers and have opportunities to work within the wider community to help improve schooling. It also allows students, parents as well as teachers to have more of a sense of belonging.

To help improve schooling SEAT members voice their opinions at conferences and forums and discuss matters with people such as the Director General of Education and principals from other PSP schools. (Priority Schools Program). These discussions cover what actions need to be taken and whether or not there need to be more opportunities for students.

The first Student Equity Advisory Team was made last year in 2007. It consisted of Kayla House, Dewayne Sampson, Scott Briggs and Adrian Davis. This year Kayla and Dewayne were chosen to represent the Hunter and Central Coast region. SEAT is a big responsibility and the team is enjoying the challenges it provides.

History Site Study

Australian in the Vietnam War Era
70s Decade Study

It is with great pleasure that I report on the inaugural Year 10 Nambus Day. Attendance, participation and overall attitude on the day were very pleasing.

The Gosford City Sub-Branch of the Australian Vietnam Veterans and their travelling museum was a highlight of the day. The four Veterans’ were extremely informative whilst being friendly and honest about their experiences. Students had the opportunity to hear first hand accounts of the experiences of the Vietnam War during the day as well as entering the bus full of historical memorabilia enabled the students to view and discuss primary and secondary sources relating to the Vietnam War.

Students participated in four workshops relating to the Vietnam War as well as the 1970s decade. The ‘protest banner’ workshop enabled students to express their art skills, and later in the day join in on the mock protest march. The 1970s sports trivia session was enthusiastically delivered by Ms Quigley dressed in her 70s sweatband and tracksuit. All students eagerly participated in an attempt to win one of the great prizes. Miss Hibbert delivered the 1970s music workshop dressed in a very glam rock outfit, and engaged students with her presentation. Mrs Lindberg’s presentation on entertainment and popular culture of the 1970s was very informative and all students seemed to enjoy the ‘hands on’ activities.

Congratulations to John Edwards, Brendan Dowd,Emerald Ellison and Melissa Gardner for winning the best dressed awards. Al students are to be congratulated on their excellent behaviour on the day and their enthusiasm during the various sessions.
