What is the Hunter Sports High School Netball Program?

The program provides a unique opportunity for talented netball players within the Hunter Region and Central Coast to combine academic achievement and sporting excellence. The program includes:

  • 2 x 1.5 hours sessions per week over 40 weeks.
  • Regional and State level competitions.
  • Sport Science Education
  • Strength and Conditioning component.
  • Development of coaching and refereeing qualifications
  • Biannual Fitness Assessment at Balance Health Club

How does the program work?

  • The program follows the National curriculum of core skills established by Netball Australia.
  • The program emphasis is on individual skill development and improvement.
  • The program aims to assist players to fulfil their potential and play at the highest level

What has the Program Achieved?

  • Finishing in 7th place in NSWCHS Knock Out Tournament
  • Finishing 1st place in the Year 7, 8 & 9 Competitions at East Lakes Zone Gala Day
  • Umpiring at the Hunter PSSA Gala Day, the Eastlakes Zone Primary Schools Gala Day and the Westlakes Zone Primary Schools Gala Day
  • 4 girls selected in the Eastlakes Zone Netball Team
  • Karli Ireland making the NSW U/15 All Schools Team and selection as a shadow player for the Australian Team

Who are the Netball Coaches?

  • John Fletcher – Former Newcastle Jaegers Coach.  A Graduate Diploma in Sports Coaching and ongoing training with the largest coach training organization in Australia, Coach University (Coach U) provides additional support to the hundreds of hours of direct coaching and 40 plus years of first hand life experiences
  • Paula Quigley – Level 1 National Accreditation

How does it link to Association/Community netball?

All players are required to be registered members of a New South Wales Netball Association and play in their local Saturday competition. The school program complements programs conducted by all local netball associations and has a close affiliation with Charlestown Netball Association.

How can you be part of the Hunter Sports High School Netball Program?

To be part of this program prospective students need to obtain an application package from our web page. Students must participate in regular netball competitions and undertake a trial, and provide supporting documentation as detailed in the application package. Note that students may be in any year, and acceptance and ongoing placement in the program is based on continued academic effort, acceptable attendance levels and an excellent behaviour record.
Students are supported by a school environment which caters for the academic and welfare needs of the talented athlete, allowing students to gain a quality education whilst pursuing their sporting dreams and goals.
