Support Teacher Learning Assistance (STLA)

The STLA assists schools to cater for those students in mainstream classes who are experiencing difficulties in learning. These teachers are appointed on a needs basis; the need determined by the results of the NAPLAN tests.

The role of the STLA includes the following;

  • Assist in identification and assessment of students with learning difficulties.
  • Assist teachers with meeting the needs of students. This may include the provision of resources and programming specifically for individual students identified as requiring assistance.
  • Assist students who are experiencing difficulties with literacy and numeracy.
  • Test new students for class placement, including all Year 6 students prior to entry into high school(Year 7).
  • Liaise with The Primary feeder schools to facilitate the transition process from Year 6 to Year 7.
  • Organise Special Provisions for the School Certificate and Higher School Certificate.
  • Analyse National Literacy and Numeracy Test results.
  • Are active members of the Learning Team.
